Partick Thistle v Celtic
Bank of Scotland SPL
Saturday 23rd August 2003, kick off 12.30
Live on BBC
It's the short visit across the city to Firhill on Saturday, as the Hoops take on Partick Thistle.
Last season's encounters at Thistle were tricky games, the first in August was settled by a Henrik Larsson goal which went in off his knee. The other, in February of 2003, Celtic settled the match in the first half, with Chris Sutton doing the damage in a 2-0 victory.
Thistle have made a lot of new signings during the summer, new boss Gerry Collins is keen to try and finish in the top 6 of the SPL. An early goal will be crucial for the Hoops, who seem to play more freely with this luxury under their belts.
With the 12.30 kick-off, it gives us a chance to get 3 points in the bag before the top 2 in the league standings - Hibs and the Huns play at Ibrox at 3.00. Despite being very early in the season, the psychological side of the game is still a massive presence in the way games work out.
Team news for Saturday has been boosted by the fact that John Hartson has resumed full training and will be fit for the game. With Chris Sutton still suspended, we have missed a physical presence up-front, although Shaun Maloney has played well alongside Henrik Larsson.
Tomorrow will be a tricky game and if the players can get the points in the bag with a scrappy 1-0 win, I will be happy.
Celtic-Mad Prediction: Partick Thistle 0 - 2 Celtic
