Bargain Hunting

So we've missed out on the boy wonder Anthony Stokes who, it seems, has
headed for the big bucks and bright lights of premiership football…at least
for the next few months. As Strachan said, ‘fair enough.'

So once again its business as usual for WGS as he looks to find a diamond in
the rough who he can hopefully mould into a top player rather than signing
more renowned players.

As reported by the Evening Times, Burnley's £1m-rated striker Kyle Lafferty
is the latest young player from the lower leagues of England to be linked
with a move to Celtic Park.

WGS and Celtic have been continually linked with moves for players like
Lafferty who are untried at the highest level which has a raised more than a
few eyebrows among the Celtic support especially with some hoping for more
signings like Graveson, Jarosik and Vennegoor of Hesselink. Unfortunately as we're stuck in the SPL big money moves are likely to be few and far between
and we'll be lucky to see one big move this transfer window.

So we have turned to the likes of Burnley stiker Lafferty or QPR striker Ray
Jones and many others in the championship and lower leagues as potential
signings. Alan Knill was quoted as saying that Will Hoskins (one time Celtic
target who has since signed for Watford) would not be allowed to leave for
cheap so a bid of £600,000 would be required. This is well within Celtic's
price range especially considering the cash from the Petrov deal.

There isn't anything wrong with signing these players because they cannot be
judged until they have played at the highest level (or the SPL as far as
we're concerned) and so in a way they can be somewhat of an unknown
quantity.

There is no shortage of players who have been successful in
stepping up to the plate, especially when you look down south. Players at
teams like Reading and Wigan who were predicted to be premiership
strugglers have shined and guys like Tim Cahill (who starred at the World
Cup) and Theo Walcott (‘the next big thing') are also in this category.

But Beware! There are dangers and we have experienced them as well, free
transfer Mo Camara showing over and over he was not the solution to the left
back problem and £1.5 million signing Virgo (who has since been punted to
Coventry) doing very little to justify his transfer fee.

Despite these minor slip-ups WGS has proved in the past he has an eye for a
player as the Celtic faithful have witnessed with lee Naylor signing for
£600,000 and then going on to be one of our most consistent players. He is
also the man who brought us Nakamura from obscurity and the guy that
convinced a big name (boom boom) Vennegoor of Hesselink to sign for Celtic.
Looks like we shouldn't have to much to worry about.

Hail Hail
