Celtic have this morning announced that the Assistant Technical Director of the SFA, Tommy McIntyre will take autonomy for the running of Celtic's Youth Academy. McIntyre will answer directly to Chris McCart in a reshuffle that will see McCart take an overview of the Academy process.
McCart said: "We regard this as great news and a major achievement for the club. Tommy is without doubt one of the most respected young coaches in Europe. We are sure that his appointment will be of huge benefit to the club as we aim to build on the achievements of our youth programmes in recent years."
Chief executive Peter Lawwell added: "The club in recent years has enjoyed a tremendous track record of developing its own players. Tommy's appointment is another example of the importance we place in this area. Tommy is a highly sought-after individual and we are delighted that he has chosen to join Celtic - we are sure he will make a tremendous impact."
McIntyre said: "It's a big club and, for me, it's an honour and a privilege to be asked to come in to Celtic Football Club."
So quite all that this will mean to the average punter in the street remains to be seen, but you cannot have a good output without a good structure.
Yours in Celtic
