As the Tony Mowbray saga drags on the Sunday Mail have been quoting an un-named West Brom director this morning. Ex-Celt Mowbray still has two years left on his contract and chairman Jeremy Peace, said to be angry that Celtic have still not approached his club officially, is quite prepared to hold him to that contract if Celtic don't compensate West Brom to the tune of £2m for Mowbray and his assistants Mark Venus and Peter 'Pointer' Grant according to the source (who may or may not be a figment of some journo's fevered imagination).
Yesterday the midlands club released yet another statement denying that Celtic had made contact with them "We can only repeat we have had no official approach from Celtic." said a spokesman.
But the anonymous Sunday Mail source was a little bit forthcoming, as anonymous 'sources' tend to be, "Celtic seem to think this is a fait accompli simply because they've decided they want Tony, it's anything but." he said. "He has two years left on his deal and we'll want appropriate compensation. And that doesn't mean £1m. I'd be expecting at least double that."
"If they don't agree and expect our manager to just resign then hope to cut a deal, they're mistaken as well." continued the un-named director. "Knowing our chairman he wouldn't hesitate to put Tony on gardening leave and let him sit, like Crystal Palace did with Steve Bruce a few years ago."
