Hysteria over YNWA banning

Last updated : 05 October 2006 By Jack Kennedy
The Scottish press and other media seem to have gone into hysterics after reports that YNWA had been banned by Uefa. The truth is that Uefa has agreed with all Champions league clubs a timing schedule for announcements and the CL anthem which leaves no room for "Local" clubs to play any songs after the CL Anthem.

This has been prevalent in all Champions league games including last years and The song beloved by the Celtic support was never in danger of being banned from anywhere.

The song was belted out at the game against Copenhagen and the support was well capable of starting the song without the help of the Parkhead DJ.

Celtic songs belong to the fans not to the club and its the support that decides what to sing, Not Celtic and certainly not Uefa.

The "Banning" headlines today were there to sell newspapers and Uefa have been made scapegoats by certain sections of the media. The song will get sung at all CL games and Uefa are happy for it to be part of the atmosphere at Celtic park. The DJ is allowed to play it before the formal announcements start but is unlikely to do so because of the size of the crowd at that time.

Get your scarves up and your throats cleared. Hats, scarves, banners raised in triumph as the celtic support sings their beloved anthem.
