Such are Celtic’s injury problems GS may have to rely on a 20 year old forward to plug up the lack of options in the right full back area. Young Jim O’Brien who normally calls the right wing or penalty box home may have to become accustomed and comfortable on the right defensive flank after injury has ravaged the full back position. Some may say that GS should be held accountable for not strengthening or indeed bolstering the thinnest area of our slightly threadbare squad but there is nothing to gain in finger pointing at this time.
I have a penchant for the dramatic headline so the prospect of a twenty-year old playing in a position he has never been bled in fills me with trepidation ahead of the weekend clash. Come kick-off time and the jangling of nerves however I may have a different outlook!
The player seems calm on the face of it "I never envisaged my full Celtic debut being as a right-back," he said.
"I never even envisaged it being away from home, but I suppose you can never call it.
"That's just the way things happen.
"As things stand, it looks as though there might be a slot at right-back. Who knows what will happen though.
"The boys who have been playing there have picked up knocks while Paul Caddis, who would probably have been given a chance, is also injured.
"I came on there against Gretna and I played right-back in a closed-doors friendly with Dundee last week and I felt okay.
"If the manager wants me to play there, I'll go in and do my best, give it everything and try to learn as much as I can about the position."
Go on son, give em hell!
Down Mos Eisley Cantina way ("You will never find a more wretched hive of scum and villainy….")Wattie and Ally (Aka Darth Sidious and Darth Fat) have their own injury worries with the news that Da Marcus of Beastly had to go off after half an hour of the USA’s friendly against Switzerland. BBC sport (who also have a penchant for the dramatic) report that Beasley was clattered by former Celtic trialist David Degan in the fourth minute, tried to play on but eventually was replaced in the USA's 1-0 victory.
He could now be struggling for Saturday's visit to Ibrox by Scottish Premier League leaders Celtic.
Oh the irony!
Rangers also have problems in the right full back area with Alan Hu’n being a doubt for Saturday’s match. The young defender has a meeting with a specialist this morning. Speaking ahead of this apointment Dr Frank Stein said "After a little shock Therapy followed by some minor brain (Well it is ickle isn’t it) surgery we expect Alan to be fighting fit for Saturday.
Stories regarding grave robbing at Carstairs Graveyard are as yet unlinked to this item!
It is thought that both Paul Hartley and Scott Brown have a 50% chance of being fit in time for the Orc stampede that is a visit to Loyalville.
Anyway its time for the medication!
Yours in Celtic
