It's supposed to be a competition

Rangers now need snookers to win the SPL and we still haven't put the clocks back.

The only credible competition at the moment is coming from Hearts who are liable to implode at any point.

Celtic's squad and the organisation off the field mean that we are years ahead of our rivals in terms of quality and finance. Given the resources we have it would take a monumental effort from our "challengers" to beat us over a season and I don't think any of them are up to it. There will be the occasional blip along the way but I can't see anyone in Scotland mounting a sustained challenge and can see us winning the league by an even greater margin than last year.

We can all see that Celtic are improving as a side and how Gordon Strachan is addressing our weaknesses. Our "dodgy" defence is now the best in the league having conceded fewer goals then anyone else. We have fierce competition for places in midfield and up front. We also have the luxury of having players that would walk into any other team in the league sitting on our bench. We also have a much younger squad than we did under MON so this period of domination could last for a very long time.

This is great for the Celtic support in the short term but how does this actually help Celtic to improve when the League is effectively a 1 horse race ? We are miles ahead in Scotland and pulling away but we are still way behind in European terms. How are we going to improve ourselves if there is no competition at home ? It has always been difficult to attract top quality players to Scotland and this will become even more difficult when there is no competition. Celtic are implementing an exceptional youth policy to bring through great players but how are they going to improve when they are playing sub standard opposition every week ? How will we retain our best youngsters when they can win everything in Scotland by the time they are in their late teens and then they start looking for real challenges ?

As a supporter of Celtic and a supporter of football in general I don't want to turn up to a foregone conclusion every week and every season. I find rangers games far less exciting now because I know that we are very likely to win. I want some excitement and some uncertainty when I attend a game. I want to win but I want the team to have to work hard for it.

We need competition to grow. Where are we going to find it ?
