Celtic have never been a one man team. Perhaps Henrik Larsson made a big difference when he played but we still seemed to do fairly well on the odd occosion we did not have him in the team. Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink however made such a difference to the Bhoys when he came on against St Mirren and his impact was immediate.
There are two schools of thought here. One is that JVOH is a stunningly good player and that he is a one man points winner. The other is that the current team are so average that we cant do without players with an above average skill leval and if JVOH and Nakamura were injured we would be in deep trouble.
Manager Strachan certainly tried to freshen up the starting eleven on Tuesday but the team still looked fairly jaded and the crowd rarely got a chance to applaud what was a pretty average performance by the hoops.
Todays announcement that Celtic are not looking for a striker may mean that we have to rely on an injury free JVOH and the big man tends to be fairly prone to picking up knocks. Does Big Jan make the team tick? Or can we do without him? Our messageboards are open at www.cybertims.com
