In a repeat of the situation witnessed by the faithful in 2004, Kilmarnock Farming Community would rather lose out on a big pay day than move a few of their fans to accommodate extra Celtic fans for Sundays SPL clincher at Rugby Park.
Kilmarnock Chairman Michael Johnstone said, "If the usual home support turn up on Sunday then there could be around 4,000 empty seats.
"Given that tickets are £23 each, we are going to lose around £100,000 in revenue due to restrictions that we have voluntarily put in place to segregate the supporters.
This has arisen after Kilmarnock received complaints from supporters after flashpoints arose in the final day of the season in 2003, when many Celtic fans managed to get tickets for the home sections of the stadium.
One can appreciate that security issues may be paramount, but with the club potentially making enough money to buy a new player or secure the services of one of the fans favourites then surely that is a small price to pay?
Johnstone continued "It could be even more because some Kilmarnock fans may decide to stay away from Rugby Park because they don't like to be outnumbered."
Given that Celtic will receive an additional 800 tickets once the usual allocations in the Moffat and Chadwick stands are sold out would that not mean that the Killie 'faithful' would be "outnumbered" regardless? I am no mathematician but surely Celtic fans filling two full stands plus a small section of the West stand would mean that unless Kilmarnock fans occupy every other seat (highly unlikely) they will be "outnumbered" regardless?
Or is it just the case that they don't want to be outnumbered by Celtic fans in Party mode?
One wonders if this stance would be adopted should their kith n' kin come calling for a party in the future? Hopefully it will be a long time before that happens!
