McDonald reveals inspiration behind Celtic switch
Scott McDonald has revealed his source of advice when faced with the not so difficult decision to join Celtic – None other than former player Mark Viduka!
Speaking yesterday in an interview with the official site, McDonald, 23 stated that he was on international duty with Australian when he received news of Celtic’s interest.
"Funnily enough, when Celtic started to show an interest, I was actually in China with Mark playing for Australia," said McDonald when asked if Viduka had spoken to him about the dream transfer.
"I had a good chat with him and I got a good insight into what it means to play for this club. To be honest, I already knew a lot but it was good to get Mark’s perspective and get some advice.
"I took it on board and here I am today – a Celtic player. I can’t wait to get started. There’s a real buzz about this place. There are people everywhere, but I like that.
"At Motherwell, I knew everybody at the club by their first name. Hopefully, that will be the case at Celtic but I think it will take me a bit longer to do that."
Scott also commented on his two goals for Murderwell that cost Celtic the league in 2005 "Maybe some Celtic fans will still be upset about that," he smiled, "but it's in the past for me. The club have won two titles in a row since then and hopefully I can help them make it three next season and score the clinching goal for Celtic this time."
The stiff competition for striking places may be made all the harder for Scott, a red card late on in the season means he will miss the first two SPL games of next season. One other player who may not be available for selection at the start of next season is Derek Riordan.
On the second day of his trial Derek was identified as one of four men involved in an assault in a pub in Edinburgh.
The trial continues on the 26th June
