When it was announced there were many who thought "Strachan for Celtic, your having a laugh". There were also those among us unfortunately, who take the view that if you are not a dyed in the wool Celt from cradle to grave then you have no right to manage our club. They conveniently forget the many Celtic legends that did not start out as Celtic fans but they are now as passionate as any of us. There was also the fact that the wee man would, on regular occasions, with his pals from the land o the sheep come down and turn us over with monotonous regularity.
I must admit that from the off I was genuinely excited at the prospect and to be honest could see no credible alternative at that time. I knew the way he wanted to play and I knew I agreed with it. The start of his reign was a tad sticky to say the least, but he endured, we closed ranks and we won, much to the anguish of most of the journos who for the life of them cannot see by their team, or indeed their cobalt noses.
A certain monsieur Le Geun was conscripted and that was that if you believed the press, particularly Darryl King, who I thought had taken up a position on his knees directly in front of the French wizard. I still take a brass for Darryl to this day, but on the bright side the carpet burns on his knees are healing really well I hear, although another spell seems to be in the off now that Walter has returned with Ally making the tea in his own imitable but anarchic funster sort of way.
Another season is drawing to a climatic anticlimax of a finish. Rarely have I been so bored since I escaped from that Insurance Salesman Camp in the elate 90's. But we have won the league again and the champion's league exploits earned us the cash we need to stay ahead, hopefully the board will have learned from the past and invest to stave off the threat that will undoubtedly come from our friends across the river. I have no doubt that there will be a renewed challenge, well the must be Darryl et al have told us and they are very rarely wrong, now are they?
