New Kit Deal Announced

So, the rumours were right - Nike are to be Celtic's new kit suppliers.

The word on many Celtic messageboards and fanzines has been that there had been an offer placed by Nike to take over as Celtic's new kit manufacturers, starting next season. Today, it was revealed that this indeed will be the case, as Celtic bid farewell to a long relationship with Umbro.

The new deal will commence on 1st July 2005, and will last for five years.

Celtic will make at least £5 Million per year out of the deal, with a possibility of more, depending on the team's performance. The £25 Million over five years will do the club good, and I am delighted at the deal.

Nike are the world's finest sports manufacturers. They currently supply the kits for Barcelona, Arsenal, Manchester United, Juventus and Brazil. And Aberdeen.

The deal will not go down too well with some supporters though. Only two weeks ago, a new home kit was released. Three months previously, the current away kit was brought out. From July next year, these tops will be seen to be old and three new kits will be brought out by Nike, plus two goalkeeper kits. I feel particularly sorry for parents under constant pressure from their kids to make sure they have the best and most up to date football strips.

Celtic are due to make a lot more money our of the new Nike deal that we are currently making with Umbro. Nike's worldwide shirt availability is far greater than anyone else's, this will enable Celtic fans throughout the world to purchase Celtic merchandise with ease.

Carling will remain Celtic's shirt sponsors.
