Brian Quinn’s comments regarding football are as hit and miss as Kenny Miller’s attempts at goal. Ranging from the dull diatribes that we have been treated to at Paradise to the hilarious "I don’t care who comes second" when asked about a resurgent Rangers his soundbites can be about as welcome as protester at Ibrox!
Talking about Celtic’s trip to Moscow Quinn said, "It is a wonderful result and we are ever so pleased," he said. "It was tough, but we knew it would be. We expected that. They are a good side and have some quality players, skilful players.
We take it one step at a time - I do not wish to sound curmudgeonly (surly and foreboding –thanks to google) or miserable here - but we are more than halfway there with that away goal.
"The players are serious about converting the result into one that takes us into the group stages," he said excitedly. "I think the second leg will be a different proposition for Spartak Moscow. They play in a ground where the fans are a long way back and separated from the pitch by a running track in between. It is an Olympic stadium, remember.
"It will be a new experience for them to play in front of 60,000 Celtic fans shouting at them and on a grass pitch, so I think the odds have turned in our favour.
"They came at us very quickly and I think the pitch was a handicap for our players. They didn't have the same level of control when it bounced, but they kept their shape and came away with the deserved result. We could even have won the game."
Wise words Brian, one hopes that we don’t rue Scott Brown’s hesitation in the Luzhkni Stadium.
In other related news, Henrik "The King of Kings" Larsson was back to what he does best, scoring in Helsingborg’s UEFA Cup tie against Drogheda United.
Congrats Henke!
Rumours that Maxi Lopez could be making a trip to Paradise have been quashed this morning with news that Barcelona are to accept a 1.5M bid from FC Moscow for the players signature.
