Hamburg may only need one point from their next two Group C matches to ensure their progress to the next stage of the Europa League competition at Celtic's expense but Scott McDonald has been involved in football long enough to know that anything can happen in this game. With that in mind the team will do their utmost to secure three points tonight whilst hoping that Rapid Vienna can do them a massive favour by winning in Hamburg. If such a scenario comes to pass then Celtic would travel to Vienna for the final match knowing that there was still a chance of advancing to the knock-out stage of the tournament.
"It is going to be tough for us to qualify if we are being honest." said McDonald. "We need other results to go our way, but stranger things have happened. What I would say is we must at least take care of our end just in case a situation arises where we can qualify from the group. So we've got to go out tonight and make sure we defeat Tel Aviv."
"To have any chance of qualifying, we have to take all three points." added Celtic's number seven. "We know what is on the line and we are determined to go out and win. If we can achieve that then we can take another look at the group and see where we are placed. We haven't managed to win any of our two Europa League matches and that is disappointing. We drew with Rapid Vienna and then lost to Hamburg. We would certainly like to put that right tonight. Hopefully we can put in a good performance for our fans."
