Strachan's Cup Achilles Heel Continues to Haunt the Support.

That is the end of that Cup run then eh? Gordon Strachan has had his detractors during his time at the Club and many thought that we could exorcise the memories of last season's Cup 'campaigns' by competing all the way for a treble. Unfortunately the pain of last season's home exits from both Clubs remains as Celtic failed to traverse the tricky road to Hampden by being unable to beat St Mirren in Paisley.

Many persons also felt that Gordon Strachan could answer many of his critics who still defy logic by ignoring or dismissing his record in his 3 + seasons in Scotland by ensuring, at the very least a passage into both domestic cups. However this was not to be.

Yes the story could have been different. Had big Jan managed to score that late header or had we converted one of the other chances we created in this match then we would not be lamenting another Cup exit. Many are asking questions as to why we could not score against a team who we destroyed a week earlier, although the earlier result would have been a major inspiration to the Paisley team going into this tie.

What impact this will have on the rest of our season is another story, although without reading too much into our next match, the days of Celtic supporters being confident of winning a one-off tie appear to be a thing of the past.

Yours in Celtic
