Celtic supporters trying to get into Celtic park today found themselves in long queues again as many supporters once again failed to understand the simple operating instructions of the new Celtic smartcard system.
Celtic issued all season card holders a simple instruction sheet and instructions are also posted at every turnstyle yet hundreds if not thousands of fans caused delays by not using the system correctly.
Standing in the queue outside the Jock Stein stand at 2.30 pm it took fourteen minutes for twenty people to get through a turnstyle as more than half of these supporters stuck their smartcard into the slot meant for paper tickets. When The stewards managed to talk to the supporters stuck in the turnstyle and told them to HOLD the card stationary against the orange coloured part of the scanner the supporters repeatedly waved the card in front of the scanner at a speed that even Clark Kent would have difficulty in reading.
One steward commented to me as I got through the gate first time that "most of the fans are too thick to use the system" and although that sort of comment should not be made by any steward, after being stuck in the queue behind some serious idiots I was unable to disagree with him..
Are some of he supporters too thick to use the new "idiot proof" system?. Or is the system just too complicated?
