Striker Chris Sutton has today signed for Birmingham City, leaving Celtic by mutual consent. Sutton leaves for free and is contracted to Birmingham until the end of the season.
The Englishman was offered a contract extension on reduced terms to keep him at the club until next summer, but declined. He said tonight that he felt he was left with no choice but to leave the club.
Sutton was signed for Celtic by Martin O'Neill in the summer of 2000 and has been one of the most important players for the club, on the domestic and European scene.
Sutton bagged vital goals against Blackburn Rovers, Juventus, Barcelona and countless against Rangers to name but a few, and has been fantastic throughout his time in Glasgow.
Gordon Strachan said today, "It is obviously a huge disappointment to lose a player of Chris’s quality. The club has granted Chris his wish to move on and I would like to wish him all the best for the future."
