The Monday Afternoon View from the Gutter

The news today that Artur Boruc may have to go under the knife directly after the Milan game does not bode well for Celtic. Thankfully the fact that we have had to endure two more away games than the Forces of Darkness and despite that can still enjoy a lead at the top keeps a smile on my face.

Celtic have three home games and two away games in the run up to the visit of the Orcs on the 2nd of January but with two of those ties being against Hibs and Falkirk we will still need to play well to ensure maximum points. We can ill afford to drop points in the run up to the Ne’er day match. An away trip to Inverness to a ground that has never been a happy hunting ground for us is also a potential banana skin.

Rangers can also enjoy three home games but their visits to Pittodrie and Easter Road must have the average Bear a little concerned as to where the points will come from, especially after the loss of ‘Beasley goes down’. With a tricky home tie against Hearts on the 15th to look forward to I can’t see Rangers coming through December unscathed!

I would hate to face the prospect of having to do without the services of Artur Boruc in this period, especially against them. Surely it would have been prudent to use Artur’s services sparingly after he announced that he was going to require surgery on his knee last weekend? There is a chance that Boruc may not require immediate attention however. Strachan said "We'll look at Artur straight after the game, It might be he'll come through the test with flying colours.

"But, if he hasn't got any better, he'll go straight into hospital for corrective surgery."

I only hope the test results are positive.

Gordon Strachan was none too happy with Stuart Lovell during the post match press conference at Tynecastle. The opening salvo of "What about your failure to keep a clean sheet away from home in 14 months generated the type of response it got with WGS electing to talk about the game instead. Which is the usual format of POST-MATCH interviews Stuart!

Ps on the subject of this14 month period without conceding a goal, have we relocated to Hampden again? The reason I ask is that I seem to remember Celtic beating Dunfermline by a goal to nil in the Cup Final? Does that not constitute a clean sheet?

Yours in Celtic
