The Monday Morning View from the Gutter

Throwing a cursory glance over a certain tabloids player ratings this morning one would be confused as to what the true stories of the weekend were. Quite how a defence and a Goalkeeper which lost two goals (albeit one was chopped off) and gave the opposition at least three guilt edged chances at home can get an average of 7.5 out of 10 bemuses me. Compare this to a defence that does not concede and limits the opposition to a couple of real chances but ends up with an average score of 6 and the contrast is exposed. I suppose we have come to expect this type of drum-banging on a Monday morning though.

As the debate regarding Artur Boruc's booking continues we are still awaiting answers, although even the pearl divers of the South Pacific will not be able to hold their breath long enough to await a response from the SFA. I am of the opinion that if the Ref felt that Boruc was inciting the crowd then a simple warning to get off the pitch would have sufficed. The very fact that Boruc continued to applaud the crowd after the card unchallenged by Brines would infer that the Policeman has no courage in his convictions whatsoever. As I watched the game again when I returned home and saw the stamping antics of the Hibs defender Zarabi I was angered even more by the fact that the Holy Goalie was censured whilst the defender was allowed to kick his way through the entire 90 minutes.

And then we move onto the Headline that the same Newspaper runs with regarding Celtics Champions League game in Barcelona tomorrow night. Quite how they manage to derive that "Aiden McGeady fears Celtic Humiliation in Barcelona" from the line "My big worry is going through the game without touching the ball" which is the only quote in the entire article that relates to Barca's supremacy is beyond me.

Speaking of Aiden McGeady, a video has appeared on one of the popular video hosting sites which shows Paisley's equivalent of Beavis and Butthead racially (and erroneously) abusing the Clydesdale Bank Player of the Month. Again the Pearl Divers are on alert to start holding their breath anytime never!

Aiden was quick to join the debate regarding Boruc's scandalous booking. He said: "If the Hibs fans can give it out then why can't they take some stick back? Some of the abuse you have to take as a footballer is ridiculous.

'You wouldn't talk like that to people walking down the street, would you? And you wouldn't take it if somebody said it to you in the street.

"I take a bit of stick myself - obviously they regard me as a good player. If they didn't make a big deal then it would mean they weren't worried about me."

Well said Aiden.

Yours in Celtic
