Sweden were beaten 1-0 by the Danes but manager Lars Lagerbäck said "Henke has had a death in the family, It is his brother who passed away. It's heavy atmosphere in the changing room and it is not just because of the loss."
Helsingborg official Nils-Erik Svensson said that Henrik's brother died on Saturday afternoon in an apartment in Helsingborg and that the next of kin had been informed of the tradgedy.
"I will be a little short." said boss Lars Lagerbäck at the post-match press conference after the 0-1-loss. "It's a heavy atmosphere in the changing room and it is not just because of the loss. Henrik Larsson has had a death in the family. There are people with him now but it is up to Henrik if he wants to talk about this."
Press officer Thomas Saleteg said "They were told this just now in the changing room after the game. Henke was in another room with some other players. Among the rest of the players it was a very solemn mood."
"We will try to give him all the support and the help he wants." continued Saleteg. "We shall support him as best we can. Some players have been with him and are comforting him. Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Andreas Granqvist and some of the others have been with him."
The Swedes have another World Cup game on Wednesday when they face Malta in Gothenburg but it's not known if Henrik will play in that game. "It's too early to even think about that." said Saleteg. "Just now we are going to help Henke as much as we can. These questions must be considered but it is Henke who will decide."
