Shaun Maloney is talking to Wigan about personal terms after a fee, believed to be in the region of £1million, was agreed between the clubs. Wigan chairman Dave Whelan had been talking to Celtic about a move for the former Aston Villa man and his offer has now been accepted. Maloney will now undergo the usual formalities of a medical and discuss personal terms ahead of finalising a return to the English Premier League.Maloney spent 18 months at Villa and made 30 appearances in the Premier League before returning to Celtic in 2008. He has previously admitted it was a mistake to join Villa, but Whelan is confident he is ready to make an impact at the DW Stadium.
Whelan said: "The lad is interested in coming to play in the Premier League, that's for sure. Roberto (Martínez) is a big fan of Scottish football lads. He knows they've got a big heart and he knows they fight. And, once they adjust to the pace of the Premier League, we've had some very good lads from Scotland. Roberto is an excellent judge of football and footballers. If Roberto says to me that he thinks this lad can make it, I am 99 per cent sure that the lad can make it."
