Mark Wilson would love to see the Scottish Cup handed to Neil Lennon at the end of the final on Saturday. Rangers pipped Celtic to the SPL title by a single point on Sunday and also beat their Old Firm rivals in the Co-operative Insurance Cup final in March. Wilson wants his manager to get the first silverware of his management career. He said: "It would be nice to win a trophy. We were going for three not so long ago - losing the CIS and then the league. It's got to be some consolation if you get one of the three. I just think this manager and the management team deserve some silverware, especially the way they've had this group of players playing. It's been very entertaining football throughout the season and it would be nice for him to go up there and lift the cup. It's massively important to us. This is our last chance (to win a trophy this season) and it would be nice to go out there win the game and play some entertaining football."
Lennon and his management team will be talking to the board about their future in the summer with many looking for stability at those key positions. Wilson lauded the former Celtic midfielder for the progress made under his leadership and hopes Lennon can oversee a championship-winning campaign next term. The right-back went on: "He's really disappointed we didn't win the league but I think he can be really proud of what he's achieved this year at Celtic and how he's brought the fans and the club together again. He loves this club so much that he wants to stay and build something special here. This season we weren't too far away from it. Rangers beat us in extra-time and they pipped us by a point in the league - apart from that we could have been sitting here talking about a treble. I'm sure next year he'll hope to build on that and achieve what we could've done this season."
Wilson also looked back on a season of disappointment. Many say the initiative was handed back to Rangers after the game in-hand was lost in Inverness earlier this month. However, Wilson disagrees and says there were other points in the season which were lowlights - including three successive draws at Parkhead in December. He now hopes Celtic can put the disappointment of missing out on the SPL title behind them and respond next season. He said: "You spend a whole year trying to win the championship and you can't just get over it in a few days. No doubt it will be a long summer for us because you put all your efforts into winning it and when you don't it's very disappointing. But we can at least try and win the cup final on Saturday to try to pick ourselves up a wee bit and we'll just have to think about the season over the summer and come back a stronger side next year."
