Celtic 0-0 Bayern Munich

It was a share of the spoils at Celtic Park last night, with Bayern Munich being the team celebrating the 0-0 draw.

It is a result which takes Celtic to the top of Group A, albeit on level points with Bayern and Lyon. The situation now is Celtic will have to go and take at least a point from Lyon in France, in two weeks time.

As always on Champions League nights, the atmosphere was sensational. After the match, Owen Hargreaves said he had never experienced anything like the noise before the match, which says alot for the crowd.

John Hartson and Jackie McNamara came back into the Celtic starting line-up, taking the places of Johan Mjallby and Liam Miller, who dropped to the bench. Despite being all but ruled out of the game through injury, Magnus Hedman started.

The Bhoys could have had a start beyond their wildest dreams, when Henrik Larsson met a Stan Petrov corner, but the header was just wide. The King of Kings came close once again ten minutes later, when his 18-yard free kick was well saved by Oliver Kahn.

Larsson was clearly in the mood, and after a fantastic solo run, his shot was easily held once again by the German captain. If that shot went in, we could have been looking at Goal of the Tournament.

Bayern never really looked much of a threat, and only had two attempts at goal in the first half. The first acme from a Michael Ballack shot, which Hedman tipped over the bar, and the second from Santa Cruz, who was clean through on Hedman. The Germans would have been angry at the centre forward for not sticking the ball away, but it was a superb save from Celtic's Swedish stopper.

In between times, John Hartson came inches away from opening the scoring, with a header which was cleared off the line by Hargreaves.

The second period came with no real clearcut chances, it only seemed to be bad new for Celts.  Didier Agathe was taken off with a hamstring injury and Alan Thompson was deservedly booked - both players are now ruled out of the Lyon game.

Celtic found themsevles with two penalty claims turned down.  The first, Chris Sutton was challenged by Owen Hargreaves, and Larsson believed he was upended with the second challenge.

With six minutes remaining, the Celtic defence showed a severe lack of communication, when a rolling ball was left by Varga for Hedman to pick up.  Hedman obviously read the big defender wrongly, and blasted the ball straight off him.  Luckily, the ball was cleared to safety.

There was a final push for a goal by Celtic, but in the end, 0-0 was a fair scoreline.

It really does show how far we have come when Bayern Munich are leaving Parkhead delighted with a goalless draw.  We know what he have to do in Lyon, a draw will take us through to the next stage.

Hedman - 7
Balde - 9
